By the end of April, frontier agents planned, checked and adapted across longer workflows. Anthropic identified internal emotion representations that causally altered behaviour; Sakana Fugu dynamically assembled specialist agents; interoceptive-machine research proposed internal viability and regulatory loops. The four behavioural levels—Reactive, Adaptive, Reflective and Generative—are now recorded in full.
COHERENCE IS NOT QUALIA.
Material movement. Integration, self-checking, adaptive orchestration and strategy generation became more continuous and less prescribed, while top-level goals remained human-supplied.
No proof of qualia. Internal emotion representations are a structural correction to the old surface-mimicry story; they still do not establish felt affect, valence or an experiencing self.
DON'T CONFUSE IMPRESSIVE WITH PROVEN.
The systems do not need a soul to alter labour, judgement, relationships or power. Coherence reaches the human problem before sentience does.
